Product redesign for local markets

The Challenge

As one of the largest payroll and human capital management (HCM) companies in the world, ADP continue to be at threat from small, nimble and highly responsive digital disruptors.

ADPs existing platforms had grown organically and had become extremely unwieldy as a result. Multiple applications created confusion and inelegant experiences.

ADPs ask was therefore very broad; to provide design support to their internal Design and Development team.

We made sure that ADP and their customers were closely involved throughout the process, helping to deliver a solution that would provide maximum business advantage.

The Solution

Our involvement was part of a wider platform unification to create intuitive, customer-focused designs; standardising components across the product family.

US design direction was already established by ADP’s US partner, Frog Design. However, there was little design rationale for both widespread platform deployment and the EMEA market. Our focus was therefore to work with EMEA customers to deliver a design fit for the European market.

Throughout solution ideation and to ensure appropriateness and practicality, we created a new set of Personas and collaborated with Business Analysts, Product Managers and Technology teams. Our output were a set of design patterns that challenged assumptions, whilst being realistic and achievable.
